Agile Project Managers

Aka Scrum Master, Technical Manager, Team Manager.

We're looking for three exceptional Agile Project Managers to join our world class team.

  • Project Manager for internal IT projects

  • Project Manager for SQL Source Control – a bestseller with 12,000 users

  • Project Manager for SQL Lighthouse – a brand new tool, still in beta

And here’s what project management at Red Gate is all about…

Turning your group of experts into a high-performing team

Building ingeniously simple products is hard – our Project Managers are the ones who make it happen.

They harness the individual talents of amazing developers, testers, UX specialists, and tech authors, and bring them together as a high-performing team.

Using your combination of traditional and agile PM skills, you’ll lead one of these 3-10 member teams, and deliver a stream of releases for our projects and products – hourly, daily, weekly, or monthly, but no slower.

We’ll rely on you to keep your team motivated, and to focus them on clear goals, product quality, usability, frequent delivery, and talking to users, so we build what’s right for them.

Iteration and shared learning

You’ll sustain our culture of continuous improvement from a process and technical perspective: making sure working software is delivered frequently, upholding engineering quality, and addressing customer issues quickly.

You’ll make sure that communication and collaboration are effective, and that your team are always clear about what’s going on, what’s important, and what needs to be done next.

And you’ll get help from a great community of development and project managers. Together, we report regularly and openly on our projects and people – that way, we catch issues fast, and share ideas that help all of us run our projects better each day.

The right mix of Scrum, XP, Kanban, and lean

We use a mix of Scrum, XP, and Kanban, with lean practices like A3s, Whiteboard Tours, and PDCA thrown in. But we’ll need your expertise to find the perfect process for your team and project.

Helping your team deliver top-notch tools on time

Although we don’t face the level of stress that you’d find in most projects around scope, schedule, and cost, keeping things on track is still important to us. Wherever possible you’ll keep projects small, fast, and healthy.

Day-to-day, you’ll act as facilitator to the team, scheduling and supporting standups, iteration reviews, retrospectives, and planning activities.

You’ll ensure your team can reach sensible decisions quickly and effectively with minimal stress – which means knowing when to step in and when to step back.

Everyone at Red Gate moves around, so don’t expect to work with the same team in three years’ time, but here are the three jobs we have open right now:

Project Manager for internal IT projects

You’ll look after…

Strategic IT projects. For example, the team recently replaced our bespoke CRM with Salesforce, and integrated it with HubSpot, Zendesk, and other line of business applications.

Project Manager for SQL Source Control – a bestseller with 12,000 users

You’ll look after…

  • A cross-functional team of 5-10 people.

  • SQL Source Control, one of Red Gate’s bestselling tools, with over 12,000 active users. It’s an add-in to SQL Server Management Studio that lets you store and track changes to your database with a version history, much like how source control normally works for application code.

  • Helping the team deliver features and improvements to SQL Source Control that delight customers.

Project Manager for SQL Lighthouse – a brand new tool, still in beta

You’ll look after…

  • A cross-functional team of 5-10 people.

  • The team are currently developing a brand new tool called SQL Lighthouse, which will allow database professionals to track and respond to unexpected changes to their databases across many environments.

  • You’ll help the team explore and shape SQL Lighthouse through its ‘discovery phase’, and lead them towards establishing the product as a key part of Red Gate’s product suite in 2015.

What's the package?

  • A great benefits package.

  • A commitment to your continuous learning and development.

  • Salary is negotiable, depending on experience (please tell us your current salary in your covering letter).

  • You'll work about 40 hours a week, with flexible work time.

  • We're based in Cambridge, UK.

How to apply

  • If you identify with any of the roles, please apply below. In your covering letter, tell us about the last epiphany you had around managing software projects. Give an example of how you'd retrospectively apply this knowledge.

  • If you don't see yourself in one of these jobs, but think you'd be a valuable Project Manager for Red Gate, apply anyway, and tell us what we're missing in your covering letter.
