As a Big Data Administrator you make sure all the terabytes of data are sent to the right place.

What you tell your friends you do
“I am the master of data at Coolblue.”

What you will really be doing

  • Managing all ETL processes.

  • Creating and managing Hadoop processes.

  • Creating new (Big-Data) systems.

  • Advising your colleagues (Data Scientists, Business Analysts, Business Intelligence Developers, and Software Developers).

How will you be doing this?

  • As a Big Data Administrator, you are awesome with SQL.

  • You work on several systems and know your way around Microsoft SQL Server, Redis, Hive, Oracle, and so on.

  • You will use the right tools for whatever job will be thrown at you.

  • You experiment with new technologies and ideas and put them to work on your own.

  • You work in multi-disciplinary teams and you can easily navigate a quickly expanding organisation.

What we have worked on last quarter

  • Created Hadoop environment and implemented it.

  • Optimised ETL processes by smarter use of data in the packages.

  • Currently planning the tests for a new, scalable Business-Intelligence environment by using NoSQL and Columnstore technologies.

What a day in the office might look like
You check your self-made dashboard of statistics from all sorts of data sources (database clusters) and processes to see if they are still healthy and have enough space to grow. Of course, on most days these are fine, but today you find an issue with the processing of data towards the Hadoop cluster. You discover that another process is holding a file, so you kill it and get the regular processing routine up and running again. Of course, this is not where the job ends. Together with a few Business Intelligence developers you find a way to prevent this from happening in the future and implement this in the script. Later on, you come up with a possible, (super-fast) technical solution to use real data in reports. These should be immediately sent to commercial teams upon encountering certain triggers in the data. The most important part here, is that the quality of data is very high and that there will always be relationships with other data. But should we use NoSQL for the job, or an RDBMS after all?

Team
You will be working in the Business-Intelligence Scrum team and meet daily with our Business Intelligence Developers, Business Analysts, and Data Scientists. Besides that, you will often cooperate with Software Developers and System Engineers. Basically, your day is filled with meeting smart and interesting people.
