Quartz is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join its growing design and development team at its Union Square headquarters in New York City. This role is critical to the success of Quartz’s products and will be responsible for planning, managing, and executing projects big and small.

Quartz is a business news venture owned by Atlantic Media, publisher of The Atlantic and other publications. We launched in Sept. 2012 with a forward-thinking approach to web design and advertising, and quickly grew to more than four million unique visitors a month. Our goal—and a key responsibility of this position—is to stay ahead of the industry by being nimbler and more iterative than everyone else. The project manager sits in the Quartz newsroom amid the journalists and developers.

The project manager will work closely with Quartz’s product engineering director to track product requests, scope new projects, define timelines, allocate and manage resources, and oversee relationships with external partners to see each project through from ideation to successful rollout and beyond. The ideal candidate will be intensely motivated to improve process, structure and workflow and is someone who thrives in a collaborative, cross-functional environment.

Major Responsibilities Include:

  • Manage all incoming product requests from a variety of stakeholders and team leads, in tandem with maintenance of existing projects

  • Manage the daily allocations of a growing team of designers and developers

  • Track all projects on detailed timelines to meet deadlines

  • Act as a liaison between ad development and site development, ensuring both teams function seamlessly and uphold an extremely high standard of work

  • Host and facilitate regular meetings with team members and senior leadership to discuss ongoing and future initiatives

  • Review all creative, product and technical deliverables to ensure projects stay in scope

  • Identify and resolve conflict areas in priorities and head off potential delays

  • Propose projects and project groupings in support of business objectives

  • Work with the product engineering director and development team members on product documentation including scope definitions, use cases, requirements, project dependencies and QA
