We are looking for a field-based engineer to survey instlalation sites and commission Zigbee mesh networks.

This is a superb chance to gain experience working at the bleeding-edge of a new and soon to be booming industry a year or two before everyone else.

You are a well-rounded technologist with experience of interacting with physical hardware in a role such as a field based technician or a system administrator. You are a confident communicator and are used to conveying technical information to non-technical people. Most importantly you are a natural trouble-shooter. If you come up against a problem you don’t let it beat you; have the ability to stop, give it some thought and come up with a solution there and then to get the job done.

You’re the sort of person that may not have a lot of industry qualifications but you can turn your hand to many things. Your skills may sometimes prove difficult to define but it’s clear that you’re a natural with kit, even if you’ve never used it before, and you’re the person that colleagues have turned to in the past to figure out the problems that they themselves gave up on.

Based from home you will visit residential construction sites across the capital and sometimes further afield (we’ve had jobs in Scotland and Brighton). You will conduct RF surveys to ascertain suitable locations for the installation of Zigbee mesh networking devices to ensure site-wide coverage as well as configuring supporting hardware such as ADSL routers and Zigbee repeaters. You will also provide support to installation technicians as the metering network is rolled out.

When not on-site, you will work on system development projects utilising your Linux administration and Python scripting abilities.

This is a varied and demanding role which will suit a conscientious and hardworking all-rounder with a can-do attitude and the flexibility to work in different environments, sometimes changing on a daily basis.

As we’ve already mentioned you will be based from home though a lot of the time you will be out in the field with occasional visits to client offices.

You will be provided with a laptop and tools as well as an Oyster card for travel and a charge card for expenses. Access to your own vehicle would be useful for the occasional trip further afield though not essential as train travel can be provided.

Salary £30K and rising, depending upon experience.

Immediate start.
