The Purpose Platform
Purpose has been developing an internationalized, open source suite of tools for rapid response online organizing - a combined CRM/CMS for multi-lingual online activism, a tool for SMS campaigning in the Global South, and a Brazil-based social media petitions tool. We recently open-sourced the code, and have successfully launched multiple incubated movements on the platform.
The goal for the platform is to build out two digital models that evolve organically and symbiotically; Purpose will continue to invest in the tools for our clients and will also cultivate a robust open source community that can leverage the tools - twist them, bend them, and customize them - as needed for local contexts.
The Role
We're seeking a Lead Architect who will be responsible for the architectural decisions of the Purpose Platform. She/he will play a critical role in architecting a SaaS platform and setting processes in place to facilitate the growth of the platform over the coming years, both as a SaaS product and as an open source community. This full time position requires strong technical acumen, significant experience building out complex applications and web-based projects, and some experience managing a technical team.
You will be supported by and work with our motivated Platform Team that includes the original developers of the Purpose Platform, an experienced product manager, and stakeholders who use the platform everyday.
Responsibilities include:
- Responsible for implementing the product vision (including potential technologies, challenges, etc.) through managing the technical development of the product.
- Work closely with the Purpose Platform product manager to scope and build features for the open source and partner codebases.
- Maintain the multiple open source projects that make up the Purpose Platform.
- Structure and oversee the back-end technologies that enable the platform to scale as a SaaS offering
- Work with SaaS clients to extend the platform for additional use cases and needs.
- Work with and cultivate relationships with the open source community of developers and activists.
