Infrastructure Development Engineer

At the Camelot Development Centre we build and deliver our interactive platform for lottery gaming, including the National Lottery website and mobile gaming. We are expanding our portfolio with new features on our existing platform as well as building new products and software services and need a development infrastructure engineer to ensure we can scale this development out effectively.

The Camelot Group operates the UK National Lottery, covering 4 of the UK biggest brands, the most successful lottery website in the world and a network of 38,000 retailers. We are the most cost efficient lottery in Europe with only around 4% of revenue spent on operating costs and delivering £33 million to good causes each week. Camelot also provides services to lotteries worldwide.

The role:

The Infrastructure Development Engineer will be a part of the Software Development team, reporting to the Software Development Manager and be working alongside a diverse mix of software developers, client side developers and QA engineers. You will be responsible for building, improving and maintaining the infrastructure and systems used for developing and releasing the department's software. We are expanding our services to run internationally and our development infrastructure needs to expand with them – you will be working in the development team to design and build environments which are secure, scalable and reliable.

You’ll be finding ways to automate manual processes, streamline existing ones and scale out services to more users and regions without increasing the support and maintenance load. You'll make data driven decisions and be adding instrumentation and monitoring to gather the data you need and make it available to the rest of the team.

The Infrastructure Development Engineer will be based at our Development Centre in Charlotte Street, central London, but will be expected to travel up to visit Camelot’s HQ in Watford from time to time.

We will expect you to:

  • Managing and further developing Camelot’s distributed automated software deployment pipeline

  • Playing a crucial role in transitioning the development and test infrastructure to the cloud, making recommendations on technologies and providers and taking a lead on the delivery of cloud based infrastructure

  • Undertaking initiatives to optimize our builds and associated services to reduce build cycle times, make better use of hardware resources and improve test coverage

  • Building and improving existing development tools in response to developer requirements and your own recommendations

  • Generalising the development and build process so that web, mobile and other products can share the build, test and deployment processes where possible

  • Understand software quality & performance metrics and build systems to expose them to the rest of the team and then optimize them

  • Improving the test facilities throughout the platform and looking for opportunities to automate them
