Position summary
Systems Engineers are members of the Product Engineering group (PE) at NWEA, a high-functioning team of creative, collaborative, motivated and professional individuals driven by the singular mission of partnering to help all kids learn. We are in search of like-minded individuals who want to build and operate cutting-edge technologies to deliver a SaaS assessment platform that supports upwards of 100,000 concurrent users. As a member of the Technical Operations team within PE, you will design, build and manage a world class infrastructure to support NWEA's products and mission. Responsibilities
• Install, configure, maintain and automate multiple Redhat/CentOS Linux environments via Puppet and Foreman
• Participate in continuous integration efforts and Agile software development processes to support regular software releases for our SaaS platform
• Lead the evaluation, selection and deployment of new technologies and tools
• Work with project managers, department heads and team members to determine project approaches, parameters and priorities
• Work with colleagues to optimize overall system performance. This includes working with applications, network, storage, database and server technology
• Provide support to internal and external clients, including participation in the 24x7 on-call rotation
• Perform system audits, document findings, and publish recommendations
• Keep abreast of technical developments to ensure the NWEA is able to take advantage of industry advances
JOB REQUIREMENTS: Education and other traits
• Minimum bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field; equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered in lieu of a degree
• Minimum 1-2 years related experience, with at least 1 year experience in RedHat Linux Systems Administration
• Experience supporting a SaaS platform as a Linux professional
• Experience working in an Agile/Scrum environment
• Experience with CI/CD processes and methods
• Experience in automating large scale Linux environments utilizing one or more of the following: PERL, HTML, Python, PHP and Shell scripting
• Experience with the following is a plus: Puppet, Hiera, GIT, MongoDB, PostgreSQL, Foreman, Jenkins, JIRA/Atlassian suite
• Demonstrated experience configuring multi-tier JAVA and web-based applications
• Exposure to and understanding of VMware virtualization
• Expert level analytical abilities, diagnostic skills and technical aptitude
• Experience in 24x7 high availability production/sustaining processes, including “lights out” support and remote administration
• Excellent listening skills and a commitment to communicate clearly, completely, and in a timely manner
• Ability to work unsupervised and seek out work with minimal direction
