Job Description
In a large and extremely successful media organisation, the Software Developer will sit within the Search team that provides search capabilities across the organisation's web pages, smart phone/tablet applications and internet connected multimedia devices in the home. This is a high profile team that delivers scalable and resilient solutions that deal with high volumes of traffic (over 70 million requests a day).
The ideal candidate will be an experienced Software Developer with expertise of Java server side technologies, a self-starter, with good communication skills and an excellent team player.
He or she will work within an agile development team to help deliver scalable and resilient solutions.
Responsibilities
Deliver high quality well tested solutions into production to meet sprint commitments. Participate in daily stand-up meetings, planning games, showcases, and retrospectives. Collaborate with the Product Owner to write user stories, providing information such as cost (estimates) and technical risk. Work with the testers to identify and ensure acceptance criteria are satisfied. Contribute to the strategic direction of the team through technology evaluations and solution proposals. Work as part of the team to support and maintain the live product (including first line support). Essential
Proven delivery experience of large-scale, high volume, high concurrency, high availability and resilient Java-based solutions. An advocate of test-driven development with a clear understanding of unit, integration, performance and load testing in developing high quality software. Experience of implementing JSON RESTful APIs using Java technology. A background in Continuous Integration and Delivery practices (Jenkins/Hudson). Desirable
Knowledge and experience of working with search engines (Solr, Lucene, Elastic Search) Knowledge and experience of working with NoSQL solutions (MongoDB, Redis, Cassandra). Knowledge and experience of working with Oracle and SQL. Experience working in an Agile/SCRUM methodology. Experience with: Jersey, Grizzly, Spring, Intellij IDEA, JUnit, Cucumber, Gatling, Tomcat. Unix/Linux deployment and shell experience.
