Lead Java Developer at 20th Century Fox (Los Angeles, CA)

Drive expansion and improvements to Fox’s Enterprise Media Framework (EMF) applications. Fox’s EMF group is used to manage and globally distribute digital media content and its associated metadata for Fox, its partners and customers. This position will design and implement scalable, quality based media management solutions that expand the EMF’s capabilities, integrate it into the media supply chain and drive business value for Fox. The EMF Lead Developer will play a key part in this initiative by implementing the components designed by architects.



The EMF Lead Developer must work well in development team, and closely with architecture and testing teams and be a pro-active solution-oriented individual with strong written and verbal communication skills. The EMF Lead Developer must have experience developing and architecting robust, quality software solutions. A solid understanding of technological ecosystem is required. Specific responsibilities include software design, test driven development, oversee other developer activities, trouble shooting, documentation and presentation, performance tuning and improving infrastructure reliability.



Primary Responsibilities:


  1. Design, Development and Testing


  • Leads project activities during analysis and development phases.

  • Prioritizes, advises and focuses developers on key activities during the project.

  • Works with the team on designing complex software solutions according to defined application requirements.

  • Develops software components as per the requirement.

  • Performs unit testing and debugging of applications.

  • Identifies complex integration and user acceptance test scenarios.

  • Provides technical support through all testing phases and general releases of software.

  • Adheres to department programming standards and methodology.

  • Consults within the team to identify infrastructure capacity requirement.


  • Production Support:


    • Participates in production support activities.

    • Identifies complex problems and analyzes potential solutions including workarounds.

    • Performs tuning, repairs and/or maintenance to production applications.

    • Work with other IT departments on integrated system support, as required.


  • Administrative:


    • Performs workload planning, tracking accomplishments, team meetings and status reporting.

    • Works within development and infrastructure teams to continually improve application environment while documenting all system changes.

    • Provides technical assistance and mentoring to junior associates.

    • Communicates plans, status and issues to management on a regular basis.

    • Adheres to department standards, policies, procedures and industry best practices.



    Departmental Responsibilities:



    • Perform robust and continuous quality improvement of the EMF applications.

    • Provide input on multiple projects and balancing multiple tasks and priorities.

    • Review and coaching developers on coding standards and practices.

    • Developing comprehensive technical processes flows, system security modeling and the end user interfaces.

    • Serves as a coach to contractor resources, to ensure that project SDLC processes and procedures are followed and adapted to support project goals.

    • Solid understanding of SDLC from design through production implementation required.

    • Must be able to lead troubleshooting of production issues.

    • Ability to supervise work and confirm all prerequisites are completed.

    • Detail oriented.

    • Organizes and extends existing operations and troubleshooting documentation.

    • Serves as a coach to expand knowledge of the application.
