As a Lead Engineer you make sure that the IT infrastructure at Coolblue is able to handle our spectacular growth.

What you tell your friends you do
“I mostly tell jokes about UDP. But you probably don’t get them.”

What you will really be doing
As a Lead Engineer you will be building rock solid IT infrastructure by:

  • Starting up improvement projects for our IT infrastructure.

  • Leading the way in the development of new systems and the migration towards them.

  • Sparring with Lead Developers to make sure our applications fit seamlessly into the infrastructure.

  • Coaching engineers.

How will you be doing this?

  • You are an all-rounder in a Scrum team. You will have your own specialization, but you will also be able to perform all other tasks within the team.

  • You prioritize your own work together with your team and Product Owner. You will receive immediate feedback from end users and you will have a lot of opportunities to experiment.

  • You will be using the right tools for whatever job will be thrown at you. Sometimes that may be proven technology, sometimes it's bleeding edge. Choices that were made in the past are not rules.

  • You will work in a motivated team to meet ambitious deadlines. There is always a budget for good ideas.

  • Your approach is hands-on. You talk the talk and you walk the walk. Getting it done is key.

  • You are not afraid to make mistakes and you always strive for improvement.

  • You are good with change and critical questions. What may seem like a good idea today, might be yesterday's news … well tomorrow.

What we have worked on last quarter

  • Built a new infrastructure for services. In order for our new faceted-search functionality to be rolled out in it.

  • Proof of Concept was built for a scalable Oracle development environment, to make sure all those new developers can actually get to work.

  • Proof of Concept was built for a scalable infrastructure for Business Intelligence. Will we expand the current MS stack, or is Redshift the way to go?

What a day in the office might look like
9.42 am - BAM! That was the stand-up meeting with your team. This week, it's all coming together: the POC is ready for the extensive battery test. First reactions: thumbs up. Excellent, you think, as that means you've killed two birds with one stone. Faster development environments for our software developers and unlimited upscaling of the development databases. Bring on the 100+ new colleagues! You answer your emails and then it's time to prepare for the brainstorm session this afternoon. The big question for your team and the lead developers is this: How are we going to design the infrastructure for the service-oriented architecture? It's difficult material, but one thing is certain for you: this will make for some great user stories.

Team
You will be working in a Scrum team of all-round engineers who know their databases, networks, storage, Linux and Windows. You know which questions to ask to get to the right solution, together. Besides that, you understand well what Coolblue needs in terms of IT, it being the fastest-growing 24/7 e-commerce organisation at this point, with over 600 colleagues working in ten locations. And what good facilitation means when a company is flooded with new Software Developers.

We offer

  • A position at one of the fastest growing companies in the Netherlands.

  • A joyful salary.

  • Lots of room for your creativity.

  • Ridiculously good training opportunities through the Coolcadamy,
